"Marry me", you say
and you will
the very stars pluck from the skies
and drop them in my lap
for my pleasure.
But, my Love
what will I, with stars do ?
Promise me instead
A flower for my hair
A loving word, a tender smile,
An unsolicited bit of praise
To show me once a while
You Love me True.
"Marry me", you say
and you'll forever be mine
all the riches of the world
at my feet, you'll lay
to prove your love for me.
Promise, instead, to sometimes
an errand run for me
to cheer me, when blue
with a cup of coffee
to carry the shoppings
to make the beds
to walk the baby
or clean the shelf
just once a while to show me
that you Love me True.
"Marry me", you say
for lovelier far am I
than any in the land
But, will you love me
If I snap and frown and weep?
when my nose runs with cold?
when I'm heavy with your child?
Will you, then too, hold my hands
when they'll be rough from washing
will you, when grey & fat,
smooth my hair as tenderly?
Or sit by my side
when I'll be with fever be?
For My Love
can't you see
I'm no celestial creature
but just as simple girl of flesh and blood
with dreams and hopes
faults and fears
frowns and tears
But if you'll have me
As I am
I'll be yours for all my days
through laughter and tears
Illness and good health
I'll stand with you
Hand in Hand
All this I promise you
If you'll marry me, My Love,
